i just finished reading >red letters< by >tom davis<. it's an incredible book about serving Jesus by serving "the least of these". the book focuses mainly on the AIDS pandemic in Africa...and it also touches lightly on other poverty and disease stricken countries.
if you get a chance you should definitely take the time to read it. it will make you want to get off your butt and do something.
at the end of the book it even lists a ton of ways to get off your butt and get involved in organizations that are helping meet global needs.
to name a few:
>**five for 50**<
>*children's hope chest*<
>*blood: water mission*<
>DATA<
>FORGE<
>a glimmer of hope<
>compassion<
>**EDUN**<
>land of a thousand hills coffee<
>**one**<
and a lot more...
close to the end of this book is a prayer quoted from st. francis of assisi:
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy;
o Divine Master,
grant that i may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
amen.

Tori, I just finished this book and I have to steel some of your post, hope you don't mind but I need your link :-)
THIS really is a must read for EVERYONE. I just gave a copy of the first chapter to all the ladies in the book club AND as a group we are going to do the 5.00 a month. I will just send them a reminder at the first of the month letting them know it's time to do our 5.00 donation. I know it's not a lot to some people, but it's something and I think if we can get groups to chip away at this huge problem, well, then we are doing something.
